God's got a plan for us

The phrase "God's got a plan" has been used and heard many times over in many different ways and in many different settings.  I think that the diversity in the use of that phrase is due to the fact that the majority of people truly believe that all or part of this phrase is true.  So what does it really say?  Let's take the first word, God.  There are a whole bunch of schools of thought that could write and have written this subject up one side and down the other.  The spectrum can run as far as the person who does not believe in God, to the person who lives his life for God, all the way to the person who lives to oppose God.  It's all out there.  So what about the atheist who does not believe in God?  I personally wonder where they are getting their information from.  I mean you can look around you and see evidence all day everyday of the existence of God.  My son and I were just praying this morning on the way to school and we were sort of having fun with the sun.  We were thanking Mr. Sun for being there in the sky since if "he" were not, we would freeze and die.  We then thanked Mr. Sun for not being too close to us, because if "he" were too close, we would burn up and be gone too.  Also, we thanked him for not being even a little bit closer or we would be hot and sweaty and uncomfortable and would say, "Gee, it's a little uncomfortable in this heat."  We had fun with it, but then we acknowledged God, and His role in the design of our planet Earth.  The Sun is just a mass of hot gas.  It's not positioning itself with any regard to us or anything else.  But God had a plan when he created the Earth, and that was for the Sun to provide the exact temperature for us to sustain life.  He also created our planet as well as the Sun at just the right mass so we are able to orbit around the sun, creating just the right gravitational pull to keep us on the Earth, but not pull us down so much to prevent us from running, jumping or throwing a ball.  That's cool.  And that's not random chance either.  So if God is going to go through all of that, to create an environment that we are able to live in, He will make sure the little things in our lives are taken care of too.  Unfortunately, "taken care of" can sometimes have a different definition for us than it does for God.  I'd like to be taken care of where I have no more worries, but I've noticed that most of the times where I grow and learn are associated with times of struggle.  you know what else, those times of struggle can usually be traced back to a bad decision that was made on my own part.  The Bible tells us in Hebrews 12:5-about 11 that we are punished for a reason, because God loves us and wants to protect us.  If my son ran out into a busy street, I'd pull him back to safety, but he'd also be in trouble in some way shape or form.  What kind of parent would I be if I just said, "That's okay!  If he wants to run, let him run.  Who am I to stop him?"  People would call me a bad parent, and they'd be right.  So why is it when bad things come our way, and we can honestly blame ourselves that they do, that it is so easy to question God and his punishment?  We simply have to remember that yes, God has a plan for us.  It's not always an easy plan, but it's God's plan, and you can't get better than that. Until next time.
